Tour the Campbell Valley Wine Route! World Class wine in the Fraser Valley.
Tour the Campbell Valley Wine Route!
I will never forget JoJo, our server at Della Santina's Trattoria restaurant in Sonoma, California. After spending the afternoon in and around the backroads past Ravenswood where some of the breathtaking vistas of 'A Walk In The Clouds' was filmed, Michele and I found a quaint little family eatery on the edge of town. After tasting so much good wine over the days I realized I was no longer just a Cab Sav type guy, and our server JoJo was extremely helpful in educating us on variety. He also absolutely would not let us have a bad bottle. We made one choice, but it was 'corky' - he wouldn't let us even have a sip. We made another choice, but the cork had lost it's seal due to age and upon opening it he knew right away, and was off with the bottle. This went on for about 4 to 5 bottles. It was amusing, and also great dedicated service. Then JoJo made a suggestion - it was a newer wine, a Zin. 'I'm so not a Zin guy' I remember protesting, but he said just to trust him.
That's when we were introduced to a most amazing wine, Plungerhead Dry Creek Zinfandel. I mean, wow.
As the wine makers notes declare: 'Dark purple hue with ruby edges, the Dry Creek Zinfandel has aromas of roasted walnut, black cherry, dried fig, Mexican dark chocolate, and sweet balsamic reduction. The flavors turn toward true Dry Creek nuances of dark currants, tart cherry, graphite, toasted hazelnut, blackstrap molasses, and finishes with rich tannins, espresso bean, dark caramel, and fresh cranberry.'
Again, wow. We were lucky enough to get the Sumas liquor store in Sumas, Wa, to bring it in special for us. If you get a chance, you must try this wine.
Working Real Estate between Vancouver and Hope has given us such a great overview and love for the amazing Fraser Valley. Seriously, we've got it all. Wine connoisseurs will delight in the fact the Fraser Valley boasts more than its share of award winning grape vintages. The Campbell Valley Wine Route - within the Langley township - encompasses four wineries located in such a neighbourly fashion that you can easily go on a mini winery tour in a day.
Backyard Vineyards, Domaine De Chaberton Estate Winery, Township 7, and Vista D’oro, provide guests with beautiful scenery and artisan foods that pair nicely with a glass of the Fraser Valley’s best.
So we wanted to let those moving to the area, or those in the fringes who may not have realized they have 'Little Sonoma' in their backyard, know a great way to spend an upcoming spring weekend day tripping! And especially after the bustle of the holidays and new year, take some time to unwind and treat yourself. Discover a new wine. We've got it all in the Fraser Valley.
