Save a Horse, Pay it forward in Barriere, BC
So Richard and I hit the road on the long weekend last. (1st of July & 4th of July independence days for the US and Canada) And as we were on the road headed to our Barriere, BC listings and on our way to the specific 10 acre listing at 3664 Glengrove in Barriere we came across a young 2 year old colt who had got out of his yard. There were trucks and cars passing by at hwy speeds and we were concerned so we stopped on the side of the road and while I got my shoes on (love travelling with bare feet!) Richard looked in the trunk for a creative way to create a halter. Well, what we didn't know at the time (and Richard found out by almost busting his ankle) is that the young colt, as he was eating on the side of the road, was steps away from a hidden (grass so tall) cattle grate! For those who may not know, I was a show circuit rider back in my teen days and my friends horse, the poor thing, had a busted leg that was the size of a basketball. Layer after layer of scar tissue due to walking into a cattle grate. (This was the mare bred for my first foal born on our farm whom I named 7th Morningstar because she was the 7th horse on our Morningstar Ranch in Bend, Oregon.) Needless to say we were ecstatic that we saved this horse that day..... Have you ever missed something so much in your life that you think of it almost every day? Something so special to you that you loved? I do, it's my horse Lady Liberty. (seen as profile photo of this blog) Lady Liberty and I had done a lot together. We trusted each other more than you would think could be possible. It was heavenly owning and loving that horse. Lesson learned: don't sell your loved ones to go to college. Go to college, but just don't sell your loved ones...missing my horses Lady Liberty, Sunshine, Stormy Angle, Reno, Cheyenne, Gypsy Rose, 7th Morningstar and pony Sunny.
